Metal Hammer have given us their review of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare” that hits radio today and iTunes everywhere tomorrow. Check out the full review here. We heard the track on the radio and couldn’t agree more!
First off, it has to be said that weighing in at an epic 6:16, ‘Nightmare’ includes all of the colossal twists and turns that fans of the Orange County ragers have come to expect. It’s a rock n’ rollercoaster ride with truly spectacular moments peppered throughout the track.
Something that becomes apparent throughout the track is that Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy has done an incredible job of replicating The Rev’s drumming style. It has always been such an essential part of the A7X sound and Portnoy has it down to a tee, throwing in unconventional rhythms but remaining solid at all times.
Nightmare’ is an Avenged Sevenfold classic in-waiting. The hard-rock meets metal hybrid that Avenged have perfected over the years is on the top of it’s game. If this doesn’t have you salivating over the release of A7X’s upcoming album this summer, there’s almost no hope for you.

Fuck buying songs from iTunes. A7X sees none of that money. I’ll be downloading the single and the album upon release, but I’ll be buying a copy of the album during the tour directly from the merch booth and I reccommend anyone who actually wants to support the band does the same.

Especially the beginning, it had an innocent feel, then the blistering guitar and drums kick in. It reminded me of two kids from The Shining, suspense through innocence

No real flow imo. Riffs were rather slow, not fast like CoE like people were saying. I hope it grows on me and the other songs on the album are better. Hopefully this was just one of their softer songs that WB forced to be their first single.

i’ve always had this curse with a7x where i never really like any songs at first listen, but it grows on me. same shit with critical acclaim too, now that’s one of my all time favorites. and it was about as fast as beast and the harlot, which i think it pretty damn fast.

they are right it is rev i can hear it , that’s amazing that you picked up on that i didn’t notice it till now. I think its the face Matts voice some what covers it but if you listen to how the tones are different you can tell its Jimmy singing, This is the first song we hear and The Revs on it :D. Amazing none the less. Its so different from what they have done before.The tones and how the music is so different its kind of like a ride leading us through the different years of A7X in one simple song.I mean if you listen to it it sounds like the Self Titled, COE, with hints of WTF in it with one part he does a glutted metal voice i guess you can say. Its all the years in one to me. Its amazing I can’t wait for the cd to come out.

They think their fav band should sound exactly how they want them to sound, not sound how the band wants to sound. A7X has changed their sound with each album, why would you expect them to recreate a previous sound? They do want they want, either support it or don’t, but don’t bitch about it.

They bring the sounds of all the cds into different ones but its plan and simple that A7X is not gonna ever been what we want, They have their own sound and gladly they own it cause with them changing each cd it gives a chance for more fans to come in and enjoy it, they will always be different with their never ending changes and that’s why we love them. it be boring if the band and i mean any band had the same sound over and over and over i mean god this is my opinion but look at Suicide silents most of their songs sound exactly alike and that’s like WTH that’s shit to me cause you cant tell the differences you cant sing along and have fun listening to that. with a7x you can

Try using headphones … he is definitely lower in the mix than the other vocals … probably because he recorded his stuff at home and not on high quality mics. Use your ears!
