MTV is currently gearing up for the 2010 Video Music Awards so they’re taking a look back at a few moments in history from the award show. Today, they posted a little piece regarding Avenged Sevenfold winning “Best New Artist at the 2006 VMA’s. You can read the entire piece here.
But the greatest moment of the night came when the men of Avenged Sevenfold took the stage to accept the prize for Best New Artist.
The presenters of the award — a competition between A7X, James Blunt, Angels & Airwaves, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Panic! at the Disco — were the aforementioned Fergie and then-10-year-old actress Abigail Breslin, who had charmed the pants off of audiences who saw her in that summer’s surprise hit “Little Miss Sunshine.” When Avenged won in a minor upset, they hit the stage in their traditional way: Tattooed, sleeveless and larger than life. Since she probably wasn’t used to a bunch of muscular black-clad metal dudes hanging around her, Breslin looked absolutely petrified as they collected their Moonman and delivered their acceptance speech. It was a great moment for the band, and the juxtaposition of them and Breslin made for great TV.

I remember this day… but I was actually hoping for Chris Brown to win o.O That was when I first heard of them haha. Now, four years later, here I am, a proud Avenged Sevenfold fan. :D

Same here, 100%. Their music is no longer the minority, they’re no longer the underdogs. Even if only for a week, they were the best in the whole of the US.

Them rising above and doing all they have done this year since the passing of the rev, they truly deserve it. A lot of people were writing them off and saying that they would fall after losing the rev. But look at them now. #1 album says enough.
