Avenged Sevenfold’s Glasgow Set List + “So Far Away” Scotland Tribute Story.

Filed under: Avenged Sevenfold, Live, Mike Portnoy, News

Deathbat News reader Emily M just got home from Avenged Sevenfold’s Glasgow gig and was kind enough to send in the set-list and a little excerpt about the show. Check it all out below:

Nightmare
Critical Acclaim
Welcome To The Family
Beast and the Harlot
Buried Alive
So Far Away
Afterlife
God Hates Us
Unholy Confessions
Almost Easy

It was so FANTASTIC. Matt told a story of how the last Glasgow show was one of Jimmy’s favourites, and how Jimmy kept a flag that made its way on the stage during that show. When Jimmy died Matt was given the flag and it’s now in his garage. He said Scotland is a very important place for Avenged Sevenfold, and then they played So Far Away. It was so amazing.

That set list looks great, but I wish it was longer.

Comment by Callum

that’s awesome (:

Comment by emilyA7X

Ahhh it was fantastic, thanks for putting this up! When he told the story, everyone was crying, it was an amazing moment.

Comment by EmilyVengeance

Your story is great! :D

Comment by Brittany_Gates

Gets longer then longer than shorter? weird

Comment by Zzz

This UK tour is a coheadlinin tour with Stone Sour, I believe, so it makes sense that it is this long. The shows in Spain and Italy were their own headlining shows.

Comment by Drew

Yeah M Shadows said that was the reason just before God Hates Us :)

Comment by Jarad Workman

Mmmhmm. Personally, I don’t think that Stone Sour deserves or is big enough to be doing a cohealining tour with Avenged (same with Suckcherry, from the 08-09 tour) and I can’t wait for a7x to come back to the States and do a proper headlining tour.

Comment by Drew

Agreed 100%

Comment by Alyssa

I wish i could have gone =[

Comment by AsevenXdotcom

It was incredible :-)
Sad, but amazing.

Comment by Jenni

AMAZING SHOW ! almost in tears when matt was talking about jimmy and how scotland had a place in jimmys heart after the last time when we gave him our flag and sung flower of scotland ! sevenfold for life !

Comment by james weir

I LOVE that set list!! Great songs and a great band! I’m really glad that my friend Emily set that list up on DBN!

what a great story! Thanks for sharing Emily!

Comment by Andrea

Thanks! :D it was an amazing night, dozens of people fainted and had to be taken to first aid though, like over 50. But that just shows how crazy it was, they really know how to get an awesome show going

Comment by EmilyVengeance

over 50? that is crazy! I saw them back in July (first U.S. show since Jimmy’s passing) & the energy then was just something else! They only played about a 1/2 hr but it was SO worth my 8 hr drive & standing in the sun all day!

Comment by Andrea

I got caught in a couple of pits, so I got out of the crowd bit and stood at the side for A7X coming on and it was amazing. Thankfully I live like 10/15 minutes away from Glasgow so no 8 hour drive for me! :P And as usual it was raining in Glasgow so no sun either, hah

Comment by EmilyVengeance

This was My first proper gig and me and my mates had to get lifted out of the wall at the front after stupidly deciding we would try and touch the barrier . Amazing gig though!!!

Comment by John

Can’t remember how many people kicked me in the head and how many of the bouncers crotches were in my face yesterday but my god that was amazing. I will never forget that time I met Jimmy, he had a heart of gold and I was cryin my eyes out when M.Shadows told us the story but I think Mike did an amazing job.

Comment by Kay

Owh sad that this set wasn’t as long as some of the European ones :(

Did anyone that went manage to meet them before or after :D!?

Comment by Ash

I hope I get to meet them after the show when I go see them, I will wait dammit!! XD

I think people have a better chance of meeting bands when they play at venues like the Academy because it’s smaller and you can go wait by the buses.

Comment by synyster craig

I’m seeing them in Birmingham and London twice, im gonna go to all 3 shows early and stay afterwards. Really really want to meet shadows particularly :)!

Comment by Ash

I was there and it was AWESOME! The tour buses were there, they were to the left of the armadillo building. Too bad they were empty when I went past them -_-’

Comment by Kirsten

Yeah I was ZOMG THEY SLEPT IN THOSE THINGS so i got a pic of me with both the buses in the background haha

Comment by Hannah

Awww you should of waited you could of met them :D

Comment by Synyster craig

Probably shortened due to Matt’s “ailment.” He sings pretty hard on Bat Country, so I’m not surprised they just played the US leg setlist.

Comment by Mike

He said he was “sick as fuck” and that’s why they couldn’t play. He must’ve had some dodgy food or something.

Comment by EmilyVengeance

Maybe some food poisoning perhaps…but it was a good thing that he is feeling ok now!

Comment by Alyssa

they haven’t played bat country on any of the sets so far. The set lists you see that keep getting posted aren’t going to change much because of the fact that Mr. Portnoy would have to also learn all those songs before the leg of the tour which would be asking almost too much.

Comment by Cheek

They played Bat Country in both Barcelona and Milan.

Comment by deathbatnews

Vocally, Bat Country isn’t as hard on the voice as something like Almost Easy or God Hates Us.

Comment by Francis

Idk about Almost Easy. The vocals seem pretty tame in that. In Bat Country, he goes really high.

And, well, yeah. God Hates Us is much harder on the voice hahaha

Comment by Drew

That’s awesome!!! foREVer

Comment by Ashleigh

aw man i basically crying at that, tonight was sooooooo insane absolutley loved it!!!<3

Comment by charlotte

Wow…..<3 ^0^

Comment by Vixyn

Great I’m in tears again thinking back to the gig. I was cryingy eyes out when matt was talking about the rev, then wen everyone started chanting jimmy, amazing!!!!!

Comment by Elana

Did anyone get whether they were on before or after stone sour?

Comment by Lana

After c

Comment by Elana

Ah man, I wish they showed a bit more variation with their set lists.
I guess it wouldn’t be fair on Portnoy to have to learn loads of their older music, but they could at least put in some more new ones like Natural Born Killer, Save Me or Danger Line. I would love to see those when they play in London.

Comment by max

You get the Halloween show. :) You could get lucky…

Comment by Mike

Well i have to say that after all of the bands i’ve seen live through the years A7X are right up there with the very best. What a show. Even better live than recorded. However i do think 50 people fainting is a slight exaggeration haha :p

Comment by John

The security guy had one of those clicker counting things, everytime someone got lifted over the barrier and taken to first aid cos they were unconscious or had been unconscious, he clicked it. It was well over 50

Comment by EmilyVengeance

It was the best gig I’ve ever been to, and probably will ever go to. When Matt was reeling off the big speech about Jimmy before they played So Far Away, I was blinking back the tears! It was my first time seeing them live and it was absolutely mind-blowing! Matt is so brave for playing even though he’s been ill, he’s such a legend. All of the people I met there were nice too, all in all it was probably the best night of my life! <3

Comment by Kelly Cletheroe

AH ste list looks sick! cannot wait for B’Ham on thursday! are they last to play in this co-headlining tour?

Comment by phill taylor

I’m going to see them in Birmingham too! looks a sweet set list that they played in Glasgow! Cannot wait! Avenged FoREVer

Comment by Rhys

Comment by phill taylor

BEST GIG EVER!
coreys wardrobe malfunction was just awfult hough O_O
that which was seen cannot be unseen….

Comment by Tich \m/

What happened?

Comment by Layla

Kilt. I’m sure you can imagine the rest :L

Comment by Jarad Workman

HAHA, I KNOW. I CAUGHT A FUCKING GLIMPSE OF HIS ARSE!
The girls behind me seemed to be enjoying it though.

Comment by Sami

Lmao, it’s just frowned upon to wear undies with a kilt. I applaud Corey… cos I caught a nice glimpse myself

Comment by EmilyVengeance

I know, us Scots would have complained to him. It’s an offence in Scotland to wear anything under your kilt, hah! I loved when he made us sing that weird song, then he’s like “OH YOU SCOTTISH FUCKERS ARE CRAZY!” xD Pfft, like we didn’t know!
Hah, I’m pretty sure half of Glasgow got a glimpse!

Comment by Sami

Best gig i have ever seen! All band were great but Avenged Sevenfold were absolutely amazing.

Comment by Lee

DBN a few questions…

Do you reckon we might be treated to A Little Piece of Heaven in London on Halloween?

Also, anyone know if Avenged’s set was longer than Stone Sours?

Comment by Ben

Guess you’ll have to see! And that I do not know unfortunately.

Comment by deathbatnews

I think Stone Sour’s set was a song longer.

Comment by Megan

it was probably longer in songs, since a7x have longer songs, but i beleive they get the same time

Comment by deen

This set looks amazing. But can anyone tell me how long they played for. and also how long the sets for stone sour and hellyeah were. Alsooo who played first between stone sour and A7X. can’t wait for birmingham!!!

Comment by James

HellYeah play a half hour set, Stone Sour and A7X played an hour each. Was hoping for more A7X but it was still awesome!

Comment by John

Awesome gig. Really welled up during So Far Away and loved the way the crowd chanted for Jimmy. Buried Alive was just sick live and I am glad they ended on Almost Easy rather than Unholy Confessions. Portnoy did an amazing job. Must have been a hard gig. Love the pic of Jimmy as the backdrop. Set with all that fire was fantastic. Ooh all you lucky people that still have to see this, I envy you! Love to see them again in a single headline show. Not that Stone Sour didn’t rock – they did – but I want more A7x!!

Comment by Pam

Ahh same, I’m praying they do their own UK tour and come back to Scotland soon, yeah stone sour were good but as soon as nightmare came on, the crowd were going mental! haha

Comment by Hannah

The crowd was insane when Avenged came on, and a lot of the time you heard the crowd more than Matt with the choruses, we were so loud. It was such an amazing atmosphere, I’ll never forget it :’)

Comment by EmilyVengeance

OK looks like I have to say it. I am a die hard Sevenfold fan but I felt a little let down after the gig. Corey was really involving the crowd telling some good stories about why he liked Scotland which was cool. Avenged told one story and they didn’t look like they were enjoying themselves and didn’t really involve the crowd.

Comment by Steve

It can’t be easy for them playing without Jummy. Maybe they did struggle. However they got through it is up to them but I was always expecting an emotional and perhaps not up to their normal par gig due to that and illness. I loved it though. Was WAY to far back to see much – don’t like the SECC much. The only thing that let them down was the appauling sound which distorted terribly at times and probably wasn’t their fault.

Comment by Pam

Yeah after watching some good guality videos of the show on YouTube. I think my comments were harsh. It’s just after Corey was telling stories and involving the crowd, I as expecting the same from Avenged. Still they played the songs aswell as I could have asked and I was really close to the front which was awesome.

Comment by Steve

Well they aren’t supposed to tell stories the whole set…

Comment by Alyssa

To all who went to the gig, who played first?

Comment by Deathbat

Stone Sour :-)

Comment by Jenni

Hell yeah
stone sour
and then a7x
Always save the best till last ;) best night of my life, it was absolutely amazing, they had the crowd in their hands – So Far Away- everyone was crying, God Hates Us everyone was going mental, it was unreal

Comment by Hannah

I agree, they were amazing :’)

I really hope they come back at one point.

Comment by EmilyVengeance

amazing show <3 everyone was going crazy, the pits were insane

Comment by wikaman

I’m still on a high from it last night :)
It was an absolutely amazing show. Because I’ve been a fan of Avenged for five years (yesterday, to be exact!) and never had the chance before to see ‘em, last night’s gig was fuckin’ special :D

The stories Matt told about Jimmy really touched my heart, everyone was crying, it was amazing. Then everyone went fucking crazy during God Hates Us <3

I waited around for about an hour or so after and seen a dude (I'm pretty sure it was one of the Berry brothers, but the fence was difficult to see past) in Avenged's bus and he was trying to pull down the blind at the drivers side but it kept springing back up! haha, we all chanted "WE WANT SEVENFOLD!" at that point, hoping he'd look out.
Fuckin' amazing night. <3

Stone Sour were really good too! Corey was mega proud when we chanted his name xD

One of the best a7x shows i’ve been to, and ive been to a lot, it was just so different though. I looked around for a few seconds during so far away. and i don’t think i seen a single person who wasn’t crying. Including myself. So emotional.

Comment by Laura C

I LOVED the show! Shadows Saluted me :D
It was awesome when he told the story, and after So Far Away, The whole crowd started chanting for Jimmy. Best show, and best day, of my life!

Comment by Amandarr!

By any chance has anyone else booked the sucky tickets in the circle seats for halloween?

Comment by PotatoBake

I wish they had a proshot video of So Far Away. It is like Nothing Else Matters: EPIC
