Chris Epting has taken the time out to write a small piece regarding Avenged Sevenfold being left out Rolling Stone‘s year end wrap issue and ‘best of’ lists. You can read the entire thing here.
After skimming the year-end Rolling Stone wrap up issue, I have to say I was taken aback with the exclusion of Avenged Sevenfold’s “Nightmare” on the “best of” album list. I knew the magazine stopped being relevant a long time ago, still, here was a chance for a little redemption…

I just kind of have to have a good laugh at Rolling Stone Magazine.
Comment by Morgan December 9, 2010 @ 3:47 pmChris Epting my new hero? Yup, pretty much. Preach it brotha. A7x family for life. <3
Comment by Theresa December 9, 2010 @ 3:48 pmWTF? why would they leave A7X out?? Thats just selfish and incosiderate of them.
Comment by ARTY7X (Alex Artis) December 9, 2010 @ 3:49 pmwhat about waking the fallen?
Comment by Anonymous December 9, 2010 @ 4:33 pmNo, he doesn’t mean waking the fallen when he put “WTF”. He meant “what the fuck”
Comment by Alyssa December 9, 2010 @ 8:02 pmi think u taking him 2 seriously
Comment by Chris December 10, 2010 @ 8:29 amThat is what it stand for…besides “waking the fallen”…
Comment by Alyssa December 10, 2010 @ 11:13 am>.>
Just because she corrected him?
Comment by Loghen December 10, 2010 @ 12:28 pmYou know you’re an A7X fan when the first thing you think of when you see ‘WTF’ is Waking the Fallen… xD
Comment by Cat December 10, 2010 @ 7:38 amI completely agree. I’m sick and tired of the guys not getting the recognition the deserve. I’m losing all hope for major publications and organizations. Look at the Grammys. That was a joke. They can’t ignore the fact they have a number one album staring at them in the face. Thank God magazines like Revolver, Kerrang and Metal Hammer have a good sense about them.
Comment by Katie December 9, 2010 @ 3:49 pmI am sorry to say, but Kerrang lost it a LONG time ago..
Comment by Alyssa December 9, 2010 @ 4:13 pmhonestly just stick with the golden god awards. these guys dont want to be in the mainstream media nor do they care. golden gods at least has artists I respect and plenty of talent that goes around. grammys are a popularity contest, plain and simple.
Comment by Anonymous December 9, 2010 @ 5:09 pmKerrang kinda sucks. Guitar World is good though!
Comment by Laurence December 9, 2010 @ 7:29 pmstopped taking rolling stones seriously after they listed jimi hendrix as number one guitarist of all time
Comment by Anonymous December 9, 2010 @ 3:49 pmSteve Vai and Eddie Van Halen blow him out the door. And our Syn is coming up fast.
Comment by SynysterLou December 9, 2010 @ 5:09 pmJimi Hendrix IS the greatest guitarist of all-time. How could u possibly say hes not
Comment by Chris December 9, 2010 @ 9:17 pmnot only am i highly offended by rolling stone im also highly offended by these comments 2 lol
Comment by Chris December 9, 2010 @ 9:24 pmthe thing they did get wrong though is that stevie ray vaughan should be #2
Comment by Chris December 9, 2010 @ 9:25 pmI completely agree….Hendrix is a legend O.o
Comment by Angst December 10, 2010 @ 8:14 amSame here without Hendrix you wouldn’t have most of the guitarists we have today his legacy and influence is remarkable, on another note if you listen closely to the bridge of Tension you can Syn doing some very cool Hendrix-esque playing.
Comment by eclecticmuso December 12, 2010 @ 3:37 pmI agree.
Comment by EM December 9, 2010 @ 3:50 pmI’m really shocked that they left The Rev out of the list of people the music world lost in the last year. It’s a pretty big slap in the face, if you ask me.
Comment by Rachel December 9, 2010 @ 3:50 pmin hindsight rolling stone has mainstreamed out
Comment by Jake Fee December 9, 2010 @ 3:50 pmI have to say that i have never come across this magazine, however, from what Chris has said, i have to agree.
Comment by H December 9, 2010 @ 3:51 pmYou know, not because I’m an A7X fan but there’s NO WAY that A7X should’ve been excluded from that list. I mean there’s no denying that the CD was not only great but INCREDIBLE. I wholeheartedly agree with Epting. So wrong.
Comment by D December 9, 2010 @ 3:51 pmway to stick it to them Chris!
Comment by bre December 9, 2010 @ 3:52 pmTime to kill Rolling Stones…where is their headquarters located? I’m going to show up there with a huge sound system and start playing the Nightmare soundtrack. I will walk into the front office while the pianos kick in during the title track…and once the rest of the band kicks in, shit will hit the fan. Just kidding lol
Comment by Brandon December 9, 2010 @ 3:53 pmWant some back up? Cause I would totally be with you!!!
Comment by A7XForTheWicked December 9, 2010 @ 5:49 pmCan I join you guys? Oh, and can we do the same thing to the Kerrang headquarters as well? Since they are located in the U.K., I can pay for airfare. XD
Comment by Alyssa December 9, 2010 @ 7:08 pmHell yeah, strength in numbers!!!
Comment by A7XForTheWicked December 10, 2010 @ 6:50 pmwell this pissed me off. definitely not worth my time.
Comment by steph December 9, 2010 @ 3:56 pmFuck rolling stone they lost all credibility when they said jack white was better than eddie van halen
Comment by Antonio December 9, 2010 @ 3:57 pm…whhhaaa?!?!??!!?
Comment by bre December 11, 2010 @ 7:53 amI agree. I stopped reading RS after I found out the Rev wasn’t in their list of people the music world lost. It’s like all these big-name companies are completely allergic to anything that is original, and want to stick to the bland and popular.
Comment by Gabby7x December 9, 2010 @ 4:11 pmI completely agree with Chris and everyone else here. No Avenged Sevenfold, “Nightmare”, or mention of The Rev in people we have lost? I say go to Rolling Stone sit or stand at their door and play all of their albums. Starting with the “Nightmare” album then go in order of release date then play “Nightmare” a second time for good measure.
Comment by Ghostflame83 December 10, 2010 @ 10:17 amPreach the word!
Comment by Loghen December 9, 2010 @ 4:12 pmChris you read my mind!! FUCK the so called “rolling stone magazine”!! its like Phil Anselmo said; Fuck your magazine,
Comment by Warnerve6661 December 9, 2010 @ 4:20 pmand fuck the long dead plastic scene!!!!!
I regret subscribing to Rolling Stone Magazine. A7X is my favorite band and over the past year I didn’t see anything positive mentioned about them AT ALL!!! The magazine talks about the same bands over and over and over and they’re really starting to suck major balls. I would cancel my subscription but I’m still waiting for them to put A7X on the cover. Someone should send Chris’s article to them for a little inspiration.
Comment by Jess December 9, 2010 @ 4:34 pmits really starting to piss me off how much these award shows and polls are avoiding a7x still they WILL be one of those bands that will be remembered for a longggggggg time
Comment by bobby December 9, 2010 @ 4:41 pmforever :)
Comment by Angst December 10, 2010 @ 8:14 amyes foREVer i will always remember jimmy, if it wasn’t for him and his music i probable would be dead :/ his music is what brought me back up when i was down, jimmy is my sole inspiration no matter what, it doesn’t matter what these stupid award shows say, because he’s personally my hero as a musician overall and a person
Comment by bobby December 10, 2010 @ 1:55 pmIt’s turned into a left wing rag and a slave to the large recording companies that regurgitate so called ‘music’ (i.e. Jon ass brothers) to the public.
Comment by Will0240 A7X forREVer December 9, 2010 @ 5:01 pmYou know what tho guys, most of the great bands of the past and present don’t get recognition. But lets remember that WE put Nightmare to #1!! not the bullshit media. These award shows and pop culture mags like RS want whats hot “in the moment” they can’t handle something as Brilliant and creative as A7X. So let them have their flavor of the week bullshit, even they know sucks and we’ll have our A7X bros foREVer!!
Comment by jovan December 9, 2010 @ 5:07 pm+1
Comment by Rachel December 9, 2010 @ 7:33 pmhonestly guys who gives a shit rolling stone went done in the shit hole for awhile now. i mean i will say this the one thing about revolver mag is they always had respect for a7x. but like shadows said there the bigest band nobody knows about and it looks like it will continue that way.
Comment by joe7x December 9, 2010 @ 5:10 pmThis is Rolling Stone’s official bio for Avenged Sevenfold. Tell me if this sounds neutral and unbiased.
“The cartoonish metalcore band Avenged Sevenfold, also known as A7X, mix screamed vocals and a hardcore punk-inspired metal guitar attack with pop hooks, creating a musical cocktail as contradictory as the band’s political outlook. Claiming to be conservative patriots, the band advocates the traditional heavy-metal lifestyle of strippers, substance abuse and horror-show lyrics.”
Comment by Mark December 9, 2010 @ 5:12 pmWHAT THE FUCK. who are the assholes in charge of the shit rag they call rolling stone ?
Comment by (; December 9, 2010 @ 5:23 pmthe media will never acknowledge or respect Avenged Sevenfold, it goes against their whole narrative that they are trying to feed the public. fortunately a7x has accomplished virtually everything through grassroots fan support, not artificial media love. bands that can do that are ones that stick around.
Comment by Mark December 9, 2010 @ 5:35 pmWHAT THE FUCK. -_-
Comment by Rachel December 9, 2010 @ 6:04 pmCartoonish my ass!
Comment by Alyssa December 9, 2010 @ 7:22 pmik i saw that. its fucking ridiculous. FUCK RS! They’ll be shut down by the people one day!!!
Comment by a7xfreakdrummer December 9, 2010 @ 9:11 pmWHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!???? ok i’m killing them richard chase style!! haha no seriously what the hell??!!
Comment by Anonymous December 10, 2010 @ 11:06 amthey are not cartoonish, nor are they metalcore, their metal guitar is not inspired by hardcore punk (that doesn’t even make sense), they don’t just claim to be conservative patriots they actually back it up, and they have publicly stated that they no longer live the substance-abuse lifestyle. RS got one fact right, the name of the band. thats about it.
Comment by Mark December 10, 2010 @ 6:17 pmRolling Stone is a rag.
BUT HAY DID YOU GUYS HEAR ABOUT U2?!
Comment by Zeekayeks December 9, 2010 @ 5:19 pmHuh??
Comment by Lowell December 9, 2010 @ 8:19 pmLOL!
Comment by Harley Quinn December 10, 2010 @ 7:14 amHow sad…another once decent magazine gone down the shitter.
Comment by Alyssa December 9, 2010 @ 5:25 pmSo true…..Way to go Chris!!!
Comment by ashleigh December 9, 2010 @ 6:00 pmhaha hes awesome (:
Comment by emilyA7X December 9, 2010 @ 5:56 pmChris,
Comment by Anonymous December 9, 2010 @ 7:13 pmYou Rule!
Rolling Stone has turned into the exact opposite of what it started as. It’s a complete joke. It’s pop-culture pandering at its best and self-serving drivel at its worst. I haven’t seen an unbiased relevant issue in years and it’s a shame it’s still in print. I think this level of nonsense just underscores how far off the pulse of music this rag has gone.
Comment by jamie December 9, 2010 @ 8:55 pmThey lost credibility when they gave zeppelin 1 a bad rating in my opinion
Comment by Chris December 9, 2010 @ 9:19 pmnever liked Rolling Stone, crappy ass magazine.
Comment by francyA7X December 9, 2010 @ 9:22 pmRolling Stone if you cant see that Jimmy was an amazing talent and that the music world will miss him. And that A7x have had an impact on the world of music this year then you dont deserve to call yourselves a music magazine..just sayin.
Comment by naomi December 9, 2010 @ 9:25 pmDude I know, I got a free subscription when i got one of those rolling stones bags at wal-mart. And I kept an eye out in the magazine for anything A7X and the only thing they have had in there was a little corner of a page. Once. I hate that magazine.
Comment by LindseyA7X December 9, 2010 @ 10:21 pmI got a free subscription too when I bought my MCR concert ticket, and thus far I’m really disappointed…
Comment by Rachel December 10, 2010 @ 7:18 amSaaaammmee here
Comment by LindseyA7X December 10, 2010 @ 10:55 amWait, people still read Rolling Stone? lol
Comment by Harley Quinn December 10, 2010 @ 12:33 amRolling stones magazine is fucking dumb. They had the Jonas brothers on one cover
Comment by Hef December 10, 2010 @ 12:35 amI stopped reading Rolling Stone about 15 or more years ago. They’re not interested in reporting on anyone unless their music can be used in commercials to sell something…in other words…sell outs! That’s why they have to resort to putting naked people covered in blood on the covers of their magazines to try and sell them to the lastes trend/fad chasers. Rolling Stone stopped having any real integrity a long time ago. And if you actually have looked at the magazine as of late it is about 70% advertisements with only about 30% of “journalism”, or so they call it.
Comment by Christen December 10, 2010 @ 5:46 amChris Epting, I worship you!
Comment by batcountryroxz@aol.com December 10, 2010 @ 6:41 amScrew Rolling Stone! Their loss that they don’t wanna acknowledge good music. Avenged Sevenfold still kicks ass and they always will be. I totally agree with Chris Epting’s article.
Comment by Erin M December 10, 2010 @ 7:02 amRolling Stone isn’t really a credible source… they’ve had the Jonas Brothers on one of their issues for Christ’s sake…
Comment by JojoGates December 10, 2010 @ 7:55 amHaving the Jonas Brothers on their cover has nothing to do with their credibility. The Jonas Brothers were a driving force in pop music for tweens. Rolling Stone lost their credibility a long time ago because they focused on nothing but main-stream and indie music. Rather then giving credit to every genre and the bands/artists dominating them.
Comment by deathbatnews December 10, 2010 @ 10:02 amWhat a joke! The boys debuted at number ONE this year with Nightmare, it’s a masterpiece just like the rest of their albums. But what were we to expect when they disrespected Jimmy by leaving him off of that list?
Comment by April December 10, 2010 @ 8:37 amThat’s okay, Rolling Stone and Grammy’s that you don’t want to give the guys the recognition they deserve. We’ll always have their backs.
i love you… and your comments are the same as mine
Comment by jruss December 11, 2010 @ 2:20 amRolling stone knows nothing about good music period.
Comment by Dea December 10, 2010 @ 8:59 amI have nothing more to add, only that I <3 being part of the A7X fan-community. Reading most of these comments made me smile. so much love & support (and a few arguments, just like any good family lol)
Comment by Bianca December 10, 2010 @ 10:38 amChris, you rock. Screw Rolling Stone and other so-called music magazines that promote cutesy pop shit. We in the A7X family know that respect and true support from fans beats out awards any day. Sure it would be nice to be recognized for having true musical talent but what can you do? We know that Jimmy was all that and then some and will foREVer be in our hearts and minds. Ah, I can’t even think of anything else insulting to say about RS. A7X rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pingback by Top Posts — WordPress.com December 10, 2010 @ 4:07 pmI for one have never read or bought a RS magazine.
Comment by Ali December 10, 2010 @ 7:23 pmI’m disappointed in this magazine and others that don’t see real talent in the music world.
Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Pantera, Slipknot and many others are amazing bands.
They really don’t get the recognition they truly deserve.
These sad excuses for human beings that run these magazines need to wake up and see true talent out there.
We have lost so many amazing and talented musicians
And they never got the full recognition they truly deserved.
I am proud of the magazines like Revolver who recognize talent REAL talent.
Jimmy, Dimebag, and Paul grey and many others get recognized that they are true losses to the world
No one could ever play like them; they brought true and amazing shit to the music industry.
RS is a sad excuse of a magazine and eventually will get crushed by Avenged fans and other bands fans.
I for one love Avenged, there music has impacted me on so many levels that I cannot name everyone.
Avenged Sevenfold foREVer.
Watch out shit excuse of magazines they will concur.
The “metal” genre will overcome all, and poor excuse of artists *cough*jonas brothers & justin bieber*cough* will fall.
They better be ready because whether they like it or not Avenged is huge, their fan base is huge.
And they are one of the bands that have made their mark in history of music whether they like it or not.
