RUMOR: Was Mike Portnoy’s Last Show With Avenged Sevenfold In Las Vegas?

According LadiesOfVengenz/TheWildRide who met Mike Portnoy at his Sam Ash signing in Las Vegas this evening the show last night at The Joint was his last show with Avenged Sevenfold. Rumor goes as is:
“The Wild Ride was at the signing. Rachel and I commented on the show and Mike’s response was “Thanks, that was my last show with the guys”.
NOTE: Please remember that THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR unless Mike Portnoy or Avenged Sevenfold confirm it themselves. I’ve been unable to get confirmation from Avenged Sevenfold’s camp. This is all the information that’s been said. I’ve been told this by multiple people today but take it with a grain of salt until otherwise stated.

Also, unless they secretly have a new drummer lined up (which, come on, is super unlikely), these new tour dates would have been canceled ASAP before more people continue to buy tickets. I don’t think MP would be telling fans this before the band and everyone… but you never know what’s going on! Just my two cents

I Somewhat doubt this. I Remember seeing in an interview he was touring with the band during their tours through 2011. After that, it’s unknown what will happen. Oh well, i guess we will have to wait and see.

Mike told me the same thing last night after the show. He was pretty sad about it. His words were “…they have other plans.”
I’m sorry but I really admire Mike for what he has done. I’ve grown to love him, he just fit. This is just like losing another member of Avenged for me.

Didn’t Mike say that he’ll continue touring with A7X if they decided to tour through 2011? Cause they already scheduled a tour until March.. One more thing, “they have other plans?” It freaks me out a little bit to hear that..

Besides, Mike Portnoy apparently has other plans too – he is working on an album with Steve Morse and others. I don’t think he’s sticking around.

He’s said on his twitter that he’s been touring for over a year so obviously means his last show of this tour , its just some idiots can’t realise that and get a kick out of stirring . Like I’ve said to my friends 10 days ago it was my last few days working in the UK doesn’t mean I’m emigrating (not till June) means won’t be working in the UK as I’m on tour in Australia ! I’ve been contacted by multiple people who met Mike at some point yesterday who’ve all said the same thing. Yes, this is just a rumor and it will continue to be that way until otherwise stated. However, if it didn’t have some substance behind it it would have never been posted here. Also, the band are not obligated to tell a crowd at a concert that it’s anyone’s last show with them. They could certainly be dealing with it privately.

So I think people are probably looking at this the wrong way. I was also at the signing and he never said anything about it to me.

Remember in past interviews one of the guys said Mike would be with them until the end of the year, and then after that it was uncertain. If that was months ago maybe they’ve already found someone to fill in for Nightmare After Christmas/Download Festival?

I, too, have talked with one of the girls from The Wild Ride before, and I highly doubt that they would make this up for attention. Throughout the course of the day I was contacted by more and more people and it began to gather substance behind it. Enough for me to post it as a rumor. Then more people came forward in this post alone saying they heard the same from a friend or themselves from Mike. I don’t know what’s going on but I figure we’ll hear something soon, at least I hope we do. Who knows, we just have to wait and see what the band says when they’re comfortable enough to say it whether its confirmed or denied.

We just want to know WTF is going on. Esp those of us who have Nightmare after Christmas tickets. Plus the verbage “other plans” is a bit wierd. I guess we all assumed that since MP had no “band” to tour with that he would be with A7X for awhile. We’ll all be following the news of what’s going on closely. I’ll have DBN up at work on my phone all day long to see what’s going on. Remember guys and girls, we’ll all fans and we are here to support A7X and not rip each other apart. Him leaving as another tour starts would mean that they have decided to move forward with a new drummer. I remember a few months ago hearing them say they didn’t know if they would go on as Avenged but if Mike leaves and theres a new tour it means that they have decided to. As for age not being an issue. maybe not but Mike has said that one of the reasons he left DT was because he has sort of burnt out after 20 years of non stop touring/recording.the fact is that Avenged Sevenfold are just coming up to the peak in their musical careers and Mike has had this with DT. He prob wants to relax a little and not be touring so extensively which he would be doing with A7X. I wish him well in his endeavors if he is leaving, thank him greatly for helping out our family and I hope he’s happy in what he decides.

But seriously, whatever happens, don’t fight each other. Like I said, we are a family, and we stick together through the worst of times. Whoever thinks otherwise is just dumb :P MP’s decision to continue touring with A7X or not is not ours, but that doesn’t mean we won’t support him.
Comment by Gabby7x December 12, 2010 @ 8:50 pmI agree 100%. The concert last night was my first A7X show, and I was really struck by how much of a family everyone is in person, not just online on sites like DBN. We shouldn’t let anything tear that apart.
Also, whatever A7X and MP decide, we need to realize that their decision is the best for them. Even if we were able to, we wouldn’t force the guys to do anything they didn’t want to do. We respect them too much for that. I think that’s really important to remember.

I waited a very long time to get more information on this before I even went through with the thought of posting it. When it started to have substance behind it, that’s when I did it. If you don’t want to “keep in mind” that some things simply have to be rumors until otherwise stated than that’s your problem.

Why create worry and confusion to a large fan base based souly on a rumor. After checking some things out I made the decision to post. And like I said, it would not have been posted if I didnt believe it to have some truth behind it. This stuff gets posted here, whether people like it or not. I put disclaimers on all rumors, it’s not my fault that people who read the rumor automatically assume it to be true.

I know there was the issue with that date in the states, but the halloween show in London wasn’t made official by the band until very close to the date of the show. Tickets had long been sold out by that point so if DBN hadn’t mentioned it when the rumour first started going around, a lot of people would have missed out on being able to go…
Despite the lack of an official statement, Mike has, to some extent, gone public with this so it’s only right that DBN should think it’s worth mentioning. And yeah, it’s not ideal not knowing the full story but I think a lot more people would rather know that something is going on and that something could happen, than those that would rather be kept completely in the dark…
DBN, you run this site however you see fit… Even the band appreciates it so you must be doing something right! ^^

Maybe Mike missed the band and felt he had to go back. I’m not worried for A7X though, I know they’ll make the right decision.

People need to calm the fuck down and wait it out until everything falls into place. I think this should have never been told to this site in the first place. If Mike is this mad he doesn’t need this going on his shoulders. Plus, I don’t really want him mad at this site too
Comment by Mel December 13, 2010 @ 11:13 pmno one has any right to get mad at dbn over this. this is a news site, news is what this is. its been said plenty of times that it wouldn’t have been posted/mentioned here without some type of substance behind it. he should have known if he kept telling people it was his last show with the band that it would make its way here. there’s nothing wrong with it being posted, there’s everything wrong with ppl jumping in like they know what happened and already putting the blame on one party or the other before anything official comes out.
