In the dual “The Future Of Hard Rock cover issue of Guitar World in which I posted their interview with Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates the publication also spoke with members of Asking Alexandria and Black Veil Brides who had this to say about Avenged Sevenfold:
GW: Avenged Sevenfold seem to have broken open the doors for modern bands to indulge in Eighties metal techniques, including solos and harmonized guitar licks. Do you think they’re an important gateway band?
Bruce: I love them. They started out pretty much like us. And then they took the gloves off and threw out the rule book and came out with City of Evil. That was just unreal. They reaffirmed my belief that there are no rules.
Jinxx: There haven’t been too many bands in the last five years besides Avenged Sevenfold that have brought back the arena aspect of rock and roll, and that’s what we’re trying to do as well, but in our own way.Best riff I’ve heard this year?
Bruce: Avenged Sevenfold’s “Victim.” There’s a middle-eight in there where it totally changes. It slows down to 20 beats per minute, and it’s a really simple old-school metalcore riff, but it completely changes the feel of the song.
Thanks Stephen for sending this in.

I love all 3 bands! :D A7X being my favorite of course. It’s nice to see these guys from AA and BVB have good taste in music.
Comment by Sergio July 25, 2011 @ 5:17 ameven if there music is shitty at least they got good taste
Comment by johnny marin August 14, 2011 @ 12:45 amI know exactly what part of “Victim” he’s talking about and I do believe it’s my favorite song off of “Nightmare”. it’s such a tragic song filled with so much emotion and very powerful, touching lyrics. great song choice!
Comment by LittleMissRESENTMENT July 25, 2011 @ 6:23 amWhich part of Victim is he talking about?
Comment by Adam July 25, 2011 @ 7:36 amEdit: I’m guessing he’s talking about the “I’m missing you” riff?
Comment by Adam July 25, 2011 @ 7:37 amHey which part of victim would that be? Would love to know that. Thanks!
Comment by Drinked July 25, 2011 @ 8:17 amVictim, hell yeah!
Comment by Bobbi July 25, 2011 @ 10:24 amI don’t have the song on hand to listen to right now, but I don’t recall there being any old school metalcore riffs in there off the top of my head. I’ll have to go back and check it out later.
Comment by A7XEric July 25, 2011 @ 10:25 amnot sure what part hes talking about because the song remains the same tempo until the end which is still 45ish bpm
Comment by Anonymous July 25, 2011 @ 11:13 amIs it the part 5:05?
Comment by Loghen July 25, 2011 @ 12:17 pmHe’s either talking about the riff during the first guitar solo, or the one at the very end where the female singer comes in.
Comment by Laurence July 25, 2011 @ 1:24 pmThink it’s the part at 4:54
Comment by Anonymous July 25, 2011 @ 2:36 pm(: they are nice
Comment by EmilyA7X July 25, 2011 @ 3:25 pmI’m not really familiar with either of those bands, but if they’re fans of A7X and have been influenced by them, I’m gonna have to check out their music. :)
Comment by JaCaria July 25, 2011 @ 4:32 pmI’m a fairly big fan of BVB and i think that their new album is awesome. You should definitely check them out.
Comment by iZacky July 26, 2011 @ 1:10 amI love AA and BVB but i love A7x the most! ask anyone they’ll probably tell u that I won’t shut up about them XD
Comment by A7xFan July 25, 2011 @ 4:37 pmI’ve been a huge fan of A7X for a pretty long time, and AA pretty much since they began, but I’ll admit this was the first time I had really listened to BVB, and I have to say they’re not too bad. I love how they are both influenced by A7X and are big fans of them.
Comment by Brandon July 25, 2011 @ 7:16 pmI love the part at 5:28 where the guitar sings up and down.

Comment by Tracey7777 July 26, 2011 @ 7:43 amMaybe the part around 3:50? Zakky is doing a pretty simple old school riff and Syn is soloing over it… or the part at about 5:15.. but that’s mostly Syn soloing, Zakky has a VERY background-ish part there, but nothing riff-y
Definitely glad it’s in the top 20 for the Uproar poll, though! :)
Comment by Blake Tull July 27, 2011 @ 7:57 amThere is no metalcore riff in Victim. And if you guys don’t realize, 20 bpm is 1 beat per second. That’s extremely slow and there is no part in Victim that’s that slow.
Comment by Tanner July 27, 2011 @ 7:57 pmNo…. 20 beats per minute would be one beat per 3 seconds. 60 bpm would be one beat per minute
Comment by Michael July 28, 2011 @ 11:58 amIf there were 20 seconds in a minute, you’d be correct. But there are 60 seconds in a minute, so 20bpm is 1 beat per 3 seconds. 60bpm is one beat per second. When I saw 20bpm, I was thinking I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything, much less from Avenged, that slow. So I have no clue what he’s talking about.
Comment by Brady July 28, 2011 @ 8:08 pmA7X never speed up or slow down the tempo in any of their songs. They may change time signature, but never tempo.
