Revolver Magazine recently caught up with Synyster Gates to talk about why he wanted to get involved with Guitar Center’s Master Class, being influenced by his dad, studying a wide range of music with M Shadows for the new album, what fans can expect from “Hail To The King,” recording with Arin Ilejay, M Shadows’ new hairstyle and more. Read the entire interview here. Avenged Sevenfold will cover of the next issue of Revolver Magazine due on newsstands July 30th and Revolver’s Editor In Chief has shared a photo of the bands photo edit.

[….] For this last record, M. Shadows and I were studying everything from fucking classical music to jazz to fucking everything. Anything that we were interested in, we studied the fuck out of it. And we’d never really done that before. We just had fun making a record and doing a bunch of shit. But we really wanted to hone in on our songwriting and production craft. Just seeing how the legends did it. It’s constantly inspiring and stimulating. [….]

With regard to him not recording a solo album, I hope that if avenged ever does take a hiatus, that Syn and his dad will make an album together. It would be really cool, and a chance to see his jazz influences.

I think it’s pretty safe to say Avenged would never break up with all the members working on solo projects. They’ve mentioned time and time again that any awesome ideas they get, they want to save for Avenged. And when they talk about the Guns N’ Roses and Pantera breakups they’re always like, “and it sucks cuz they’re one of our favorite bands and biggest influences; can you imagine if they got back together how awesome that tour would be?”. And I think they see that and have learned from that as well as from bands that have stood the test of time like Metallica. It’s never been about being in just any band playing music for people. It’s been about being in THIS band as brothers and doing whatever the fuck they want to do. That’s why Avenged is different and awesome.
