They call “Hail To The King” a “beast of a record, vast, ambitious and magisterial” also stating, “It is unquestionably Avenged Sevenfold’s masterpiece. Wow. I really hope this does bring rock back to the forefront. The way it’s described here… I mean, I’m not usually one for profanity, but holy fucking shit this is gonna be amazing!

Metallica your heirs have arrived.. That line says it all about Avenged Sevenfold.

This review actually gives comparisons to songs and albums that some songs would fit on. And it also made me even thirstier to hear Crimson Day. Bring it on!

Definitey the best review of the record so far. Couldn’t be more excited for a record in my life.

These are going to be the longest ten days of my entire life :)

This is a great review full of great lines, and one of my favorites is “…the standard of songwriting is so high across its ten tracks that it already sounds like a greatest hits collection.”

This review sure does put the album on a high pedestal. I hope it lives up to the hype, but I’m sure it will!

And here’s me thinking the reviews were being safe and then this one comes out. 9/10 AND the telling statement of A7X being the heirs to Metallica. Really can’t wait for the album now.

If you think about it “Hail to the King” is a pretty appropriate name. As Avenged Sevenfold finally take the throne they’ve been destined for a decade.

Going to lie down on my bed, plug in my good studio headphones, and listen the hell out of this album. Cannot wait for Crimson Day, Planets, Acid rain and Shepard of Fire!!

I’ve been a huge, huge fan since waking the fallen. I grew up on these guys, and was always behind every album they made. They’re talent, dedication, and love for what they do has brought them to their rightful place as the kings of metal in the new age. Hail to the kings.

Comment by Jensen

Awesome review!!!!! Even higher rating than Nightmare so this must be BOSS MATERIAL!!!!

Comment by JC

So far they have earned 9 8 7 8 9 (excluding StST & DitR). Interesting.

The ratings seem pretty well so far… Lets wait and see what we hear from magazines and critics that aren’t necessarily associated with the general hard rock/metal genre. It could go either way: greatest metal band of today or just a wannabe Metallica band. And that’s what I’m scared of we’ll hear from people who dislike.

Man, who cares what people who dislike might say? A waste of time. They have ALWAYS had a lot of haters and honestly, anyone who would call them a “wannabe Metallica band” is completely ignorant of what Avenged Sevenfold is.

They’ve been flirting with the “Wannabe Metallica” label for a few years though. Buried Alive is basically a Metallica song. And why can’t Avenged say “We’re confident with our own style so we want to explore it a little more” rather than trying to emulate a metal style that’s been done 20-30 years ago by Metallica, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc.

Because they can do whatever the f*ck they want?

One. Freaking. Week.

This review has me the most excited, since their previous opinions very closely match with mine (I’d go WtF 10, CoE 9, S/T 6.5, Nm 8). These guys usually know what they’re talking about.

Overall, though, I just really want to hear what they’ve come up with this time around. All of the comparisons are nice, but you really can’t compare A7x’s sound with other bands in an objective sense…they always twist things around to pull off something unexpected.

ive heard the album and let me just say you guys wont be disappointed!

Heard the record while working out at a buddies house on Monday. It doesn’t sound anything like the A7X most fans are used to. Gone are the dueling guitars and fast paced exciting music they’ve been known for. It sounds much more like a slower Metallica/Pantera mix with M. Shadows singing it (obviously). Maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10 from me. It just sounds boring to me I guess. Hope the next album is better!

I’m sorry but the album is terrible. I can understand what they are trying to do but they are having a serious identity crisis and are failing at sounding good in it. I loved Avenged and Metallica but saying they are the next Metallica? Dont make us laugh. At best Avenged put out a dismal attempt at a style they cant pull off, with an over all feeling of uninteresting. Throughout many times listening i found my self bored and drifting off wanting to skip almost every song to see if the next one would be any better. But alas it never came. Also would like to point out most of the added orchestral instruments sounded so random and forced in. Just a huge disappointment all around. I could go on cause there is no limit to all there terrible choices put into this album.

Having listened to the album I can fully concur with the review. This Means War is so unashamedly A7X’s Sad But True and Crimson Day is incredible. Planets is colossal, Heretic is awesome but my favourite is Acid Rain. It has a soaring chorus and such a delicious orchestral feel to it.
