Kerrang! Magazine have made a list of Five Ways Avenged Sevenfold Ruled Download Festival 2014 ranging from the pyro, the set list, paying tribute to Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, songs from “Hail To The King” being killer live and going down in Download Festival history. Check out what more media had to say about Avenged Sevenfold’s headlining set here.

3. They paid tribute to The Rev…
It goes without saying, really, but Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan’s presence was sorely missed last night. M. Shadows actually revealed to the crowd that Jimmy’s Mum phoned him before the show to tell him to “Go and kill it – that’s what Jimmy would want”. Shadows then preceded to dedicate an emotional So Far Away to his fallen bandmate… Truly beautiful stuff.

4. Hail To The King is completely killer live…
Shepherd Of Fire… This Means War… Hail To The King… They all sound bloody HUGE live, and they bring a whole new element to Avenged’s show. Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance are two of the best guitarists in the business, so every single note, riff and solo was perfectly harmonised, and proved that the band’s initially divisive new album now holds a worthy place in A7X’s set.

5. They went down in Download history…
“Waaaaah, Avenged Sevenfold aren’t good enough to headline Download! WAAAAAH!” Some of you moaned when it was announced that the Huntingdon Beach metallers would be topping the bill this year. But M. Shadows and the gang totally owned headline status, and there’s no doubt that they’ll be headlining rock and metal festivals for years to come. SO THERE.

DBN Note: An earlier version of this article stated they didn’t bring the ‘King’ with them, that has been corrected.
