Avenged Sevenfold just finished kicking off the “Nightmare After Christmas” tour and rocking the hell out of Reading, PA. One of my best friends JM updated me with each song as they were played for you guys. A big thank you goes out to Deathbat News reader Tommy W for being my back up! Regarding their stage set up it is the same as on the Rockstar Uproar tour. And Arin? I’ve been told “he didn’t miss a beat” and that “hef’ing ripped it.” Very awesome to hear!

So (and this is a guess) maybe they’re doing a very similar show for this tour, its a short tour and doesn’t cover everywhere, so if they are doing places that didn’t get Uproar, it’d make sense why its not completely different.

No one is going to hate them for jut having a light show… BFMV does just fine with it imo. You don’t HAVE to get all fancy and expensive.

They’ve only recently got to the stage where they’ve got enough material to be able to really try that and since Jimmy left us, they’ve had drummers who aren’t that familiar with the songs. Maybe as and when they do find someone they’re happy to stick with, more varied set lists will become the norm for them as that person learns enough material…

I’ll be honest at first I wasn’t sure I don’t like the type of music Confide plays but Arin is a great drummer and he’s playing with an amazing band obviously with a well-established sound and I trust the A7X guys to pick the right guy. Comment by Anonymous January 20, 2011 @ 8:36 pmI was surprised they didn’t… even on Uproar, when old songs had to be dropped, they dropped Bat Country and Seize the Day before Beast and The Harlot, so it was kinda surprising… also shocked they shaved off Almost Easy, glad though, everything they played was better than Almost Easy… Honestly, I have been wanting to see them play Streets, Sidewinder and Strength of the World, forever!!!!!!!!!! but when you are there, you will enjoy the show, they leave no choice in the matter… No songs are dropped forever… just see them when they come around, and in time you will get your songs (probably way before I see the 3 I want), so just go and enjoy the show man… this is the best band around, and by far the best live band… you want those songs, but at the end of the day, when you leave the Arena, you will do so with a smile.

A diehard, hardcore Avenged fan may wish there were other songs on the setlist, but would love that they’re actually playing and not just giving up after losing Jimmy. Those are great songs, and if we had our way the guys would be playing pretty much all their albums and be playing for hours, but they only have a limited amount of time and as this is the NIGHTMARE After Christmas Tour, it makes sense most of it is off of Nightmare. Also, Fiction and A Little Piece of Heaven are huge additions for most hardcore fans. Be happy with what we are getting, if they decide to tour more after this tour (and I believe they will) then I’m sure we’ll get more shows, other songs, and possibly those you feel are a heartbreak to not see on this set list. Some of my favorites aren’t up there, but songs like Fiction make up for whats not there for me. They can’t play everything.

Comment by Anonymous January 20, 2011 @ 8:24 pmDefinitely… when I saw them in 2003, I thought “you know, this will not be an Avenged Sevenfold show, until they write, release and play Beast and the Harlot in 2 years, and play it on every single concert they have.” They have 5 albums dude, plus Diamonds in the rough, they are touring to support their newest album… they played 12 songs, some are being left off… the only song that I think will never be taken off a set list is Unholy Confessions, that is practically the A7X anthem.

Best A7X show I have seen yet. And I think my count on shows is now 12 or 13, so this one tops the list.

I would of loved to see them play Save Me too and was surprised they didn’t play Almost Easy, but that being said they kicked the crapped out of Reading. Comment by Jamey January 20, 2011 @ 11:27 pmJust got back from the show. It was insane. Arin fit right in, absolutely perfect. He’s really an excellent drummer. Danger Line worked live extremely well, it was definitely a highlight. It was really something to see Fiction live. It seemed like Matt had a tough time (for obvious reasons) getting through it, but he nailed it flawlessly. A Little Piece of Heaven was great too. Glad they started doing that one again! After the show, Matt made Arin come down from his drums and stand on the center “ego riser” while the crowd cheered the loudest it did all night for him. He was definitely welcomed! I’m glad I got to see his first show with Avenged, and to see them do a couple new (and old) ones again for the first time! Definitely one I’ll remember :)

Same stage set, basically the same pyro, but it so much more intense in doors… Danger Line, was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!, sick drumming and the Solo was phenomenal… A7X didn’t miss a beat, not a dull moment, and when they played Fiction they made it seem as though the Rev was on Piano, rolled one out, and had it illuminated where he would be sitting… truly an amazing moment. I am in awe over Sevenfold’s performance… Also other highlights, Stone Sour played Hesitate for 1st time in the states and also played Bother… Corey killed it… Hollywood Undead was great for the 4 songs I caught.

What an amazing setlist! I love everything I’ve heard about this show: the set list, the production still being the same, the empty piano… And it’s great to hear that Arin’s doing a good job.
And now I’m going to be late for uni, haha! But I had to know how the show went and it was definitely worth reading all the fan comments (and excitement) at the show and what they played.

I completely understand the reason for playing those songs don’t get me wrong but… This is live, I don’t want to come to a live show to hear part live part cd… It takes the whole live element from the show. And critical acclaim? As much as I love that song, I don’t think it should be in there, to me its an opener, but It was awesome hearing it back in october, but I think something else should be there.

But other than that I am completely satisfied! Danger Line was PERFECTLY executed (especially the solo) and Fiction was just heartwrenching. I don’t know how to put this into words, but hearing Jimmy’s voice was just… Amazing

I can’t even begin to imagine what it was like hearing those first notes of Fiction and realizing what song it was. And then seeing that piano… Damn. I’m so freaking jealous!

Being in the front row for the whoe concert was definately a very amazing experience for me, and I enjoyed every little bit of it. A7X was perfectly in tune, and I thought that they sounded amazing. Same stage setup and everything, but different setlist. I must say Arin is one hell of a drummer, and I think he fits in perfectly for A7X. I think we all know that the guys wouldn’t settle for just anyone, and they certainly didn’t let us down. Being in front of Syn was quite a comedy with all of his silly stage antics and such. Now, for the encore….I NEVER thought in my life that I would hear Fiction OR ALPOH live…I was just blown away by it all. Fiction is a very tough song to listen to for me, and hearing it live was just…I don’t know. The piano was in the middle of the stage, Matt was to the left of it, and Syn was to the right. I don’t know how the two of them kept it together. I will admit, I did get teary eyed during Fiction, but I know I wasn’t the only one. ALPOH was a nice change, but it just sounded…different. It was probably because it didn’t have the essence of Jimmy live, but still, it was amazing. I absolutely can’t wait to see these guys again, and hopefully I will be able to meet them the next time. ;)
To those who are whining/bitching about the setlists; they can’t play every single song that you want them to. They will eventually push the older material “back” to play newer songs, and that is the main point. I know we would all love to have them play a 20 song set (something that would probably never happen), but there are time limits, and they are promoting their new album, and that doesn’t mean that they are supposed to play more older songs than the new.

If I had it my way, Beast and the Harlot would have stayed, And Chapter Four would have been added in. I like tge new songs. Psyched to hear Danger Line and Fiction live, and ever since last tour, I always thought A Little Piece of Heaven was a great live song and a great closer. So pumped to see them again!!!!
